The Team

Dr. Mulengani Katwalo

Dr. Katwalo is the Director of Strathmore institute for Strategy Competitiveness (SISC) and has over 15 years of experience in management and research training. He is also an adjunct Professor of Strategic Management at Strathmore Business School, Strathmore University. He has lectured in the Strategy and management field for over fifteen years. He is a management consultant in the areas of strategic management, change management and business development, and has consulted and worked with both private, Public, as well as the voluntary sectors. He is also the secretary of the Pan African Competitiveness Forum (PACF) Kenya chapter and is one of the pioneers of the clusters movement in Kenya and indeed the region. His research interest lies in the area of SME competitiveness and competence development and his publications have focused on the competence development processes and competitiveness particularly at the firm level. He is the immediate former VP for membership of the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD) and manuscript reviewer for the Journal of African Business (JAB), an author of both academic and non academic literature as well as guest columnist for many publications such as Business daily.


Mr. Martin Mbaya

Martin Mbaya is a Sr. Institute Associate at Strathmore Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (SISC) and a member of its Advisory Board focusing on SISC’s operational strategy. He is interested in East Africa’s Financial Services, ICT, Film and Innovation clusters. Martin is also a member of the MOC (Microeconomics of Competitiveness) network based at Harvard's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness and a Director with Strathmore University Foundation. He is a Co-Founder and Director of Nairobi Capital, Inc. a global mobile money financial intermediary with operations in Kenya offering working capital solutions and business know how to small businesses and individuals in Africa. He is also an Advisor with Maurice + Fischer. He holds degrees in engineering from MIT and public policy with a concentration in international trade and finance from Harvard.
