The MBA class of 2010 had their orientation program on the 9th of January 2010. Consisting of 65 participants drawn from various sectors of the economy, the orientation program was deemed a success as former SBS Dean, George Njenga welcomed the group of students to the school on behalf of Dr Edward Mungai (Dean). The participants start their classes this Thursday, 14th January 2010 with Analysis of Business Problems being their first unit, which will be partly taught by Prof Carlos García of IESE Business School.

Prof García has an impressive academic background as well as a rich industrial experience, having acquired his PhD in Management from MIT, his Masters Degree from IESE Business School and his starting Engineering Degree from Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya. His areas of interest include Strategic Management, Building Dynamic Institutions, Strategic Alliances and International Management.

Other units that the first year MBA program participants will learn include Financial & Managerial Accounting (Dr Jim McFie), Leadership & Organisational Behaviour (Dr Charles Sotz) and Management Information Systems (Dr Freddie Acosta).

The second year MBA program participants also begin their classes this Thursday, 14th January 2010. Being the year of their research projects, it is anticipated to be a tough year for them. Last year saw the MBA pioneer class graduate in a colourful ceremony, which the school hopes to experience again, come the graduation ceremony scheduled to take place in July 2011. Amidst their research projects, the second year participants will be learning throughout the year, with their first semester consisting of Marketing & Customer Service (Dr John Muriithi), Financial Management (Dr Robert Mudida) and Communications Management (Prof David Sperling).
